Dr Jon Morrow manages a number of general surgical conditions. Operations can be performed either by a minimally invasive approach (keyhole surgery) or as an open procedure. The best method will be tailored to you.

Successful weight loss requires a combination of both lifestyle changes (including diet and exercise) and surgery. A range of different weight loss surgical procedures (band, sleeve, bypass) are available. Any and all options can be discussed.

Gallstones are very common and can cause a variety of conditions ranging from minor to severe. Surgical removal of the gallbladder via keyhole surgery is the recommended treatment.

Hernias come in all shapes and sizes and should, if possible, be fixed. They can be repaired via a traditional open approach or by using minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery.

Upon completion of his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree (MBChB), he was employed initially as a house surgeon and then as a surgical registrar, working in all the major hospitals in the Auckland region – Middlemore Hospital, Starship Children’s Hospital, Auckland City Hospital, and Northshore Hospital. During that time, Dr Morrow gained experience in general surgery, adult orthopaedics, paediatric orthopaedics, plastic and reconstructive surgery, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, and urology.

In 2008, Dr Morrow completed his advanced training in general surgery and was admitted as a Fellow to the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS, General Surgery). He then went on to complete a one year fellowship with further subspecialty training in bariatric surgery (weight loss surgery) at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and Holy Spirit Northside Hospital, which are both located in Brisbane, Australia. During this time, he gained expertise in gastric banding, gastric sleeve, and gastric bypass surgery, managing both primary and revisional surgery.

Upon return to Auckland in 2010, Dr Morrow obtained a public appointment at Middlemore Hospital, Counties Manukau District Health Board as a consultant general surgeon, subspecialising in bariatric surgery with an interest in breast cancer work.
